Red White and Blue

Rose Earrings: Maternal Great Grandmother's
Bead Necklace: Paternal Great Grandmother's
Ruby Ring: Gift from Hubby
Ceramic Watch: TJMaxx
Vintage Designer Dress: Grandmother's
Red Heels: Marshall's

This dress is soooooo special.  It belonged to my Grandmother, the most stylish lady ever.  She is the reason I dress the way I do. :o)  Not that I dress just like her, but she inspired my love of fashion.

I really need to have the dress cleaned as it's a bit yellowed on one side of the collar, but I'm afraid to trust it into just only old cleaner's care.  It is silk.  Normally I just hand wash silk, but I'm afraid to touch this dress!  Usually, I go straight home and change out of it after church, but this time we ate with friends before heading home.  I was sooooooo nervous.  I had napkins across my lap, and just barely ate for fear of dropping anything on it.  Thankfully, I made it home with no stains.

We tried to get a shot of the back detail.  We were so pressed for time, that when the first attempt didn't look good we had to cut our losses and dash.  Sorry.  The top of the dress is made to look like a bolero jacket, but it is attached.  It comes to a cute point in the center of the back, complete with covered button.

The pictures below are a peek at our 4th of July. :o)

    1. Thanks! I hesitated to take a picture of it because up close you could see that I got a little messy with the White on my right big toe. I got over it though. :o)

  7. Love it! And how super cool that it was your grandma's dress. You asked a week or two ago about the polish I had on my toes...it's Orly "Glowstick" and I found it at Sally Beauty Supply. It's kind of the same color as your door! Ha! :)

  9. I think its really special that you have a dress which belonged to your Grandmother and you can wear it. The colours really bring out the red of your hair. I have a silk dress and I washed it by hand in cool water with a little wool mix (for sweaters and delicates) as i am always concerned that dry-cleaning could do more harm than good.

    1. Two things worry me about washing it myself. 1) What if the colors bleed? 2) I'd have to iron it, eek!

  13. Such a great dress and it fits like it was made for you. Too bad we can't see the back details. Yeah, I'd say hand wash in cool water, but with something really mild like baby shampoo. Or I often will call a Museum's Conservation department to ask about how to take care of something. They really knew their stuff.
